We are grateful to report thatone of ourVillage residents who had beenin a local hospital undergoing treatment for COVID-19 has beenreleased and is recuperating in a rehabilitation facility. We are sendingour best wishesfor a healthy recovery.
The Village, ourmemory care unit, will be going through another thorough cleaning anddisinfection within thenext few days using protocols set forth by theCDC.
Every patient and resident continues to be closelymonitored for symptomsevery day and throughout the day.
Both the CDCand the Department of Public Health(DPH) discourage random testing in the absenceof demonstrated symptoms. If our directcare staff observes symptomsin a resident or patient,we will notifythe family and physician, and take measures according to theMedical Director or patient’spersonal physician’s directive. For those who require testing, we continue to swabour residents andstaff on-site and we are seeing improvedturnaround times of testresults. There are no testresults outstanding at this time.
The increasedincidence of COVID-19 positive cases in our surrounding communities continues to place our healthcare workersat-risk for acquiring the virus. We have offered housing alternatives to furthershield them and to minimize therisk of exposurefrom the outsidecommunity. This comes,of course, with the added sacrifice of separation from their ownloved ones at home.
We continue to take preventive measures including screening staff prior to eachshift, sending any employee home to await test results if they show any symptoms of illness, and mandating the use of Personal Protective Equipment while at work. It is important to note that many of our directcaregivers who work part-time at Waveny are employed at other nearbyhospitals and assisted living facilities, as well. Tracking exposure sites outsideWaveny is partof our continued effortswith the Department of Health.
Please continue toreach out to your nursing supervisor for specific medical details on your familymember, and non-clinical issues to me. Wewill continue to providedaily written communications during this pandemic. Aggregate data can befound at https://www.waveny.org/daily-statistics
Our leadership teamremains in dailycontact with localleaders, local hospitals, and otherkey stakeholders workingto stay abreastof the latest information.
Thereis tremendous cooperation being displayed by all partiesto keep the healthand safety of our Residents, Patients and Caregivers, as well as the generalpublic, our collective top priority.
