Only one patient or resident in our entire network tests PCR positive for COVID-19. One client continues to test PCR positive despite receiving a high IgG blood serum antibody test result. We will continue to follow the appropriate guidelines and protocols and continual physician tracking. Similarly, all new Care Center admissions from the hospital are being quarantined for a period of 14 days as well.

As another week draws to a close, we reaffirm our commitment to each individual Patient and Resident’s recovery. Not every individual follows the same path nor follow similar test results. Every individual has their own care plan, rate of production of antibodies, and testing regimes. To insure lab accuracy, especially as it relates to COVID-19, we closely monitor tandem reference points PCR nasopharyngeal swab (PCR) and serum antibody IgG test results.

Today, we finished our second round of Employee nasopharyngeal swab (PCR) swab testing, now having tested in excess of 250 asymptomatic staff members. We continue to take vigorous Employee preventive measures including vital sign screening prior to each shift, sending any staff member home to await test results if they show symptoms of illness, and mandating the strict use of Personal Protective Equipment by all Village Memory Care, Care Center, Inn, and Home Care staff.

Affirming our commitment to vigorously retesting our residents with nasopharyngeal PCR swab and IgG antibody procedures, we are awaiting several Waveny LifeCare Network Village Resident and Care Center Patient test results, to follow-up the recent trend of conversions of COVID-19 test results from positive to negative, and higher IgG readings. This redundancy improves our risk management, diagnostic accuracy and rigor of our individualized care and recovery plans.

We were thrilled to celebrate Memorial Day with our residents and patients. The President and CEO, Vice President of Human Resources, the Campus and Licensed Administrator, the Care Center’s Director of Nursing, the Executive Director of Community Outreach and Volunteering, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors were all on campus yesterday. This show of attentiveness on a holiday is without equal to any other post-acute care healthcare network, but commonplace to Waveny’s senior management team.

Note: In observance of the upcoming Memorial Day Holiday, we will not issue a Daily Update tomorrow, Monday, but shall otherwise continue uninterrupted. Medical testing is a cornerstone of disease management. According to Quest Diagnostics, “An estimated 70% of all decisions regarding a patient’s diagnosis and treatment are based on laboratory test results.” This is especially true in Waveny LifeCare Network’s COVID-19 risk mitigation, care and recovery efforts. Given our Patients’ and Residents’ vulnerability to emerging diseases due to underlying comorbidities, we continue to apply stringent, CDC and DPH symptom, time, and test-based isolation strategies.

According to the National Council on Aging, about 80% of older adults have at least one chronic disease, and 68% have at least two. Clearly our seniors can be especially susceptible to COVID-19 exposure due to particular comorbidities like diabetes, heart disease and lung disease, which the CDC, Connecticut DPH and leading researchers say predisposes them to greater risk.
