Waveny LifeCare Network COVID-19 Daily Update

for Residents, Patients, and Families

As we celebrate Easter and Passover please keep our residents, patients, families, staff, and community in your prayers.

Please remain safe and continue to practice social isolation and distancing to help our community minimize the spread of the COVID-19 virus.  Today’s Daily Update reflects only changes from yesterday’s information as it relates to the COVID-19 virus and Waveny’s patients, residents, and caregiver status.

Data:

Changes in the Number of Confirmed and Presumed Positive COVID-19 Cases of Residents/Patients Currently Residing within Waveny: 0

Changes in the Number of Confirmed and Presumed Positive COVID-19 Cases of Residents/Patients Currently Hospitalized: -3

Changes in the Number of COVID-related Deaths (confirmed and presumed): 1

Village (memory care): 1

Changes in the Number of Employees who are COVID-19 Positive or Presumed Positive: 0

Changes in the Total of ALL Confirmed and Presumed COVID-19 Cases of Residents, Patients, and Employees: -2

Comments:

We are so thankful that two of our Waveny patients that were in the hospital have been discharged and are recovering.  Sadly, however, one of our Village residents on hospice succumbed today at another facility.  We honor their memory as a member of the Waveny family and offer our condolences to their friends and family.  The impact that losing one of our residents has on our staff is palpable and heartbreaking.

Waveny’s patients and residents continue to be closely monitored for symptoms every day and throughout the day.  Notwithstanding today’s update, we will remain vigilant and redouble efforts to maintain our protocols.  We ask that the community continue with their social isolation and practices consistent with the CDC’s guidelines.

If our direct care staff observes symptoms in a resident or patient, we will notify the family and physician, and take measures according to the Medical Director or patient’s personal physician’s directive.  Should testing be ordered, we will swab our residents and staff on-site and we are seeing improved turnaround times of test results.  There remain no resident or patient test results outstanding at this time.

The increased incidence of COVID-19 positive cases in our surrounding communities continues to place our healthcare workers at-risk for acquiring the virus.  We continue to offer housing alternatives to further shield them and to minimize the risk of exposure from the outside community.  This comes, of course, with the added sacrifice of separation from their loved ones at home.

We continue to take preventive measures including screening staff prior to each shift, sending any employee home to await test results if they show any symptoms of illness, and mandating the use of Personal Protective Equipment by all staff while at work.

Please continue to reach out to your nursing supervisor for specific medical details on your family member, and non-clinical issues to me.  We will continue to provide daily written communications during this pandemic.  Aggregate data can be found at https://www.waveny.org/daily-statistics

Our leadership team remains in daily contact with local leaders, local hospitals, and other key stakeholders working to stay abreast of the latest information.  We continue to experience tremendous cooperation displayed by all parties to keep the health and safety of our Residents, Patients and Caregivers, as well as the general public, our collective top priority.

As a sign of our commitment to our residents, patients, families, and our staff, neither the Campus Administrator/Licensed Nursing Home Administrator, Vice President of Human Resources, nor the President and CEO have taken a day off for the last six weeks including this holiday weekend.  Likewise, there have been many nurses and aides who have added hours to their schedule to be here for our residents and patients.  We are all fully engaged and committed to do everything possible to prevent the spread of this virus that indiscriminately affects our senior population.

No matter how you celebrated this holiday weekend, please continue to keep each other in your thoughts and prayers.  We are all in this together.  Thank you for your patience, support and feedback. Our entire community is most grateful.
