Waveny LifeCare Network COVID-19 Daily Update
for Residents, Patients, and Families

Thank you for your continued support, engagement and prayers throughout the weekend.

Please remain safe and continue to practice social isolation and distancing to help our community minimize the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

We are so thankful that at least four of our Waveny employees who tested positive for COVID-19 have been cleared to return to work by their primary care physicians. Those that have returned thus far reported that they had experienced mild symptoms such as a fever over two days. Even though they are cleared, they will remain covered by personal protective equipment while at work, and like all staff, be screened before every shift. We have one additional direct caregiver report a positive test result; they have not worked for Waveny for over eleven days.

We continue our testing protocols under our Medical Director’s direction. Five residents were swabbed today and remain under isolation protocols. Test results should be available to us by tomorrow afternoon/evening.

Today, we have admitted one Village Memory Care resident to the hospital who became symptomatic this morning and one Care Center resident, who tested COVID-19 positive at the hospital, has returned to the Care Center asymptomatic. The Care Center resident is resting comfortably in isolation.

Waveny’s patients and residents continue to be closely monitored for symptoms every day, and throughout the day. The clinical challenge with identifying and treating the virus is that several symptomatic patients are testing negative, while asymptomatic patients are testing positive. This highlights the importance of maintaining patients and residents in isolation protocols, and staff’s use of personal protective equipment throughout, for our Memory Care, Care Center, and Home Care patients’ safety.

The exponential growth in the incidence of COVID-19 positive cases in our surrounding communities continues to place our healthcare workers at risk for acquiring the virus. We continue to offer housing alternatives to further shield them and to minimize the risk of exposure from the outside community.  This comes, of course, with the added sacrifice of separation from their loved ones at home.

We continue to take preventive measures including screening staff prior to each shift, sending any employee home to await test results if they show any symptoms of illness, and mandating the use of Personal Protective Equipment by all staff while at work.

As a community, please continue practicing social isolation and good hygiene practices, according to CDC guidelines. Although an individual may not currently show symptoms, it does not necessarily mean that they could not infect others. We serve and protect a frail senior community and need your help. Let’s all continue being part of the solution to reduce the virus’ transmission in our greater community.

Today’s Daily Update reflects only changes from yesterday’s information as it relates to the COVID-19 virus and Waveny’s patients, residents, and caregiver status.

Our leadership team remains in daily contact with local leaders, hospitals, clinicians and other key community stakeholders working to act thoughtfully on the latest information. We continue to experience tremendous cooperation displayed by all parties to keep the health and safety of our Residents, Patients and Caregivers, as well as the general public, our collective top priority.

As a sign of our commitment to our residents, patients, families, and our staff, neither the Campus Administrator/Licensed Nursing Home Administrator, Vice President of Human Resources, nor the President and CEO have not taken a day off in the last six weeks, including this holiday weekend. Likewise, there have been many nurses and aides who have added hours to their schedule to be here for our residents and patients. We are all fully engaged and committed to do everything possible to prevent the spread of the virus that has disproportionately affected our senior population.

No matter how you celebrated this past weekend or plan to in the coming week,  please continue to keep each other in your thoughts and prayers. Feel free to use our non-denominational prayer line at (Toll Free): 1 (877) 309-2073 or (312) 757-3129; then dial the Access Code: 912-185-349, every day at 11am and 4pm. We are all in this together. Thank you for your patience, support and feedback. Our entire community is most grateful.
