Waveny LifeCare Network COVID-19 Daily Update
for Residents, Patients, and Families

As we head into the weekend, we would like to thank our families for their support and continued engagement, as well as our front-line healthcare service professionals, donors, volunteers and advocates in our broader community for their ongoing cooperation and partnership.  Our combined efforts are the most effective means to help minimize the spread of the COVID-19 virus and return our community to normalcy.

One of our residents who was discharged from the hospital after their battle with COVID-19, has now returned to the Care Center after receiving care in a COVID recovery rehab center. They tested negative twice now for COVID-19 and were transferred back to Waveny yesterday. We look forward to assisting during their recovery and are delighted they are back home!

As mentioned previously, we continue to take preventive measures to protect the safety and wellness of our residents:  this week, the emergency restoration company, SERVPRO, has completed a thorough cleaning of the Village premises, and will do the same at the Care Center in the coming days.

Also as mentioned previously, we continue to screen staff prior to each shift, send any employee home to await test results if they show symptoms of illness, and mandate the use of Personal Protective Equipment by all at the Village, Care Center, Inn and Home Care staff while at work.

Below is Today’s Daily Update, which reflects only the changes from yesterday’s information as it relates to the COVID-19 virus and Waveny’s patients, residents, and caregiver status.

Comments:

Waveny LifeCare’s Leadership Team and Board of Directors are incredibly proud of our team’s dedication and efforts during this very challenging healthcare crisis.

In addition, we are proud of the transparency we have tried to provide through these daily updates. At the same time, we acknowledge that reporting these numbers does not tell the full story. For behind each of these numbers is a beloved member of our family; each individual with a unique story to be told. For those who are willing, we look forward to helping them tell their story.

We are pleased to continue providing for the ongoing recovery of our patients and residents.

On the staff front, while one of our direct-care employees has tested positive today, we continue to welcome back both direct and non-direct care employees who had previously tested positive for COVID-19, and now have been cleared to return to work.  Like all employees, they will continue to be subject to the above-mentioned daily screening and preventive measures.

As previously mentioned, if our direct care staff observes symptoms in a resident or patient, we will notify the family and their primary care physician, and take measures according to the Medical Director or patient physician’s directive. Should testing be ordered, we will swab our residents and staff on-site.  Test result turnaround times have been improving marginally.

Your nursing supervisor will have specific medical details on your family member. Please continue to reach out to them on clinical issues and to me on non-clinical issues. We will continue to provide daily written communications during this pandemic.  Aggregate data can be found at: waveny.org/daily-statistics

Our leadership team continues to work in close coordination with local hospitals, public health authorities, clinicians and other key stakeholders. We continue to practice maximum safety measures for best possible outcomes. Through this challenging period we greatly appreciate the tremendous cooperation being displayed by all parties to protect the health and safety of our Residents, Patients and Caregivers.

Please continue to keep each other in your thoughts and prayers, and know that every day, we are working as diligently as possible to earn your continued patience and support. Your feedback has been constructive and is greatly appreciated. Our entire community is most grateful.
