Waveny LifeCare Network COVID-19 Daily Update

for Residents, Patients, and Families

As we have previously relayed in these daily updates, information during this crisis can change moment to moment. Late yesterday afternoon, one of those moments occurred within an hour of our release of the April 8th daily update. By 7:00pm, when Mike Handler made his nightly public information update to residents of New Canaan, another of our beloved Village residents had passed at a local hospital. This was an unintended consequence of our effort to get out a daily update earlier in the day. In light of this, as of today, we are aiming for a 6:00 pm daily update release from Waveny.

Please remain safe and continue to practice social isolation and distancing to help our community minimize the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Today’s Daily Update again reflects only the changes from yesterday’s information as it relates to the COVID-19 virus and Waveny’s patients, residents, and caregiver status, with the addition of the requested aggregate statistics on the last page.

Comments:

We are awaiting three test results on Care Center residents who are resting comfortably here in isolation. As previously mentioned, we have the ability to swab our residents and staff on-site, and are we are seeing improved turnaround times of test results.

We are in contact with local hospitals and clinical partners, and closely following the number of COVID-19 positive test results, number of admissions, deaths, and ventilator patients. Each hospital has expanded their critical care unit capacity and the number of ventilator patients. It is everyone’s expectation that these numbers will continue to grow. A physician this afternoon from Stamford Hospital reported over 1,000 positive COVID-19 in the town of Stamford alone.

Each surrounding community is also reporting increased positive test results.

The increased pressure of COVID-19 positive cases is daunting. We have offered housing alternatives to our caregivers to further shield them from the outside community, to minimize their exposure in their communities and their loved ones.

We continue to take preventive measures including screening staff prior to each shift, sending any employee home to await test results if they show any symptoms of illness, and providing Personal Protective Equipment. It is important to note that many of our direct caregivers who work part-time at Waveny are employed at other nearby hospitals and assisted living facilities, as well. Tracking exposure sites outside Waveny is part of our continued efforts with the Department of Health.

Please continue to reach out to your nursing supervisor for specific medical details on your family member. We will continue to provide daily written communications during this pandemic. Aggregate data can be found at https://www.waveny.org/daily-statistics

Our leadership team remains in daily contact with local leaders, local hospitals, and other key stakeholders working to stay abreast of the latest information.

There is tremendous cooperation being displayed by all parties to keep the health and safety of our Residents, Patients and Caregivers, as well as the general public, our collective top priority.

No matter how you celebrate the upcoming holidays, please keep each other in your thoughts and prayers. We are all in this together. Thank you for your continued patience, support and feedback. Our entire community is most grateful. #WavenyStrong
