Waveny LifeCare Network COVID-19 Daily Update
for Residents, Patients, and Families

The protocols surrounding the containment of the COVID-19 virus have quickly expanded to supporting those that were inflicted to their full recovery. We are heartened by the increased number of those testing positive now testing negative.  As mentioned previously, each patient and each resident has their own specific medical care plan and timeline for recovery. Our testing continues to expand from the traditional PCR – nasopharyngeal swabs used to identify symptomatic and asymptomatic residents to more serum Immunoglobulin G testing to determine by resident how quickly a resident is developing antibodies.

Clinical research supports, especially in these more social-distanced PPE-driven times, and highly recommends scheduling of smart, secure Patient and Resident engagement activities to promote better outcomes. These must overcome the challenge of integrating appropriate social, cultural and family engagement, with the need to stringently minimize potential of client and staff exposure.

Despite this curtailment, we continue to be committed to safely maximizing client and family engagement. Our Therapeutic Recreation staff have been utilizing technology in various ways that include family members, and feature virtual travel to places of interest, a variety of games, music and daily exercises.

This Mother’s Day for example, Waveny used its own in house TV channel to broadcast worship services and a special musical performance by artist Gary Kahn, Skype visits with families and volunteers, and presentation of virtual shows featuring performers and entertainers that have been a part of their lives.

We will continue these activities along with strict preventive, testing and individual care and recovery interventions, as we move into the employee testing phase for asymptomatic staff, to further reinforce our daily screening protocols.

Waveny’s aggregate data can be found at: waveny.org/daily-statistics
