Waveny LifeCare Network COVID-19 Daily Update

for Residents, Patients, and Families

Please join us in our celebration of Nurse’s week at 11:39am tomorrow, May 14th, as the Connecticut Air National Guard will do a flyover of the two healthcare facilities in New Canaan. We celebrate all of our extraordinary professionals who provide the highest, most compassionate care every single day, but greatly appreciate the acknowledgement from our Governor.

Clinical update -- Our enhanced, fully-integrated testing approach based on the latest clinical research governing COVID-19 best practices is showing great progress as the number of residents converting from positive to negative PCR testing and increased antibody production continues to advance. Supporting research of our protocols has been recently published in The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) May 6, 2020 piece, titled “Interpreting Diagnostic Tests for SARS-CoV-2” or via the web at https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2765837.

Our approach will enable our clinical and leadership team to continue to apply rigorous, protective care resources, fine-tune our cohort and contact tracing strategy, and help produce better Patient and Resident outcomes. We continue to vigorously deploy nasopharyngeal swab (PCR) Patient, Resident - and beginning next week, we will activate asymptomatic staff testing and re-testing - to improve our preventive, diagnostic and recuperative care to further minimize viral transmission risks.

In New Canaan and especially during Nurse’s week, we would like to recognize Jen Eielson—New Canaan’s Director of Health and First Selectman Kevin Moynihan for assisting the staff and families of our town’s first responders, EMS and Firefighters, and our Police Officers in facilitating their access to COVID testing for them and their families starting this Friday. They will be following similar PCR and IgG regimens. Thank you all for your service.

Going forward at Waveny, we will continue to track PCR re-testing with separate Immunoglobulin G (IgG) serological tests, that measure antibodies found in blood plasma. Antibodies bind to toxins so the immune system can mount an attack, neutralize them, and accelerate recovery. Higher measured antibody production increases the probability that the body can successfully overcome the illness, and truly benefit from the Waveny clinical teams’ targeted health, wellness, and recovery intervention protocols.

Waveny’s aggregate data can be found at: waveny.org/daily-communications

The Village
Two Residents received negative PCR results, while another’s IgG serum antibody test came back at a high level from residents who had previously tested PCR positive—great news.

Care Center
We received 4 negative PCR test readings, including 2 high level IgG results from patients who previously had tested PCR positive—very gratifying.

The Inn
The Inn continues to have no positive cases of COVID-19.

Waveny Home Care
No changes to report related to Home Care division clients. The Home Care Division will continue to assist local hospitals and healthcare providers in the home recuperation of their patients and residents.

As we increase our testing efforts and track individual recuperative signs, we will continue to provide more details and how that impacts the continued wellness and recovery of our Patients and Residents. Please continue to be in close communications and engagement with us. We are proud to honor our commitment to earn your support and understanding each and every day.

Your nursing supervisor will have specific medical details on your family member. Please continue to reach out to them on clinical issues, and to me on non-clinical issues or questions.
