Waveny LifeCare Network COVID-19 Daily Update
for Residents, Patients, and Families

Waveny LifeCare Network’s leadership and clinical teams continue to work in close collaboration with federal, state, and local health authorities and government agencies to employ policy directives that improve our Patients’ and Residents’ care, safety and quality of life.

One such agency is The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that regulates and enforces licensure for nursing home and congregate living organizations. Recently CMS issued updated COVID-19 testing, staff and case documentation recommendations to mitigate clinical risk and virus transmission.

With respect to testing, as one of our region’s few CMS Five Star healthcare providers, and in anticipation of initial nasopharyngeal swab (PCR) testing of our entire asymptomatic Employee base beginning tomorrow, we would like to assure you that we have been relentlessly focused on preempting and exceeding CMS’, CDC’s, and DPH’s testing guidelines to ensure our Patients’ and Residents’ receive optimal protection and care.

For example, CMS’ testing guidelines call for facilities to administer baseline COVID-19 tests to symptomatic individuals and continue testing until all Patients and Residents test negative. Since our regimens’ inception, we’ve administered robust Patient and PCR retesting across our symptomatic and asymptomatic client base, paired with targeted integration of IgG serologic antibody testing to refine our diagnostic and recovery interventions. The range of COVID symptoms continue to be refined, as well.

We know from clinical research and our own clinical protocols that being asymptomatic does not preclude anyone from testing positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus and that by testing only symptomatic individuals, case rates will be dramatically understated by other providers, agencies, and communities.

With no new cases reported in sometime, and a significant number of tests results converting from positive to negative, we will continue to do proactive testing of Patients, Residents and staff with a goal of mitigating COVID-19 risk in our continuum.

Comments:

We will increase our testing efforts and intensify individual care delivery to promote our Residents’ and Patients’ best outcomes despite the decrease in new COVID-19 cases and increased conversions from positive to negative test results. We greatly appreciate our families’ ongoing communication, engagement and support of our mission.

Your nursing supervisor will have specific medical details on your family member. Please continue to reach out to them on clinical issues, and to me on non-clinical issues or questions.
