Waveny LifeCare Network COVID-19 Daily Update
for Residents, Patients, and Families
Taking strong preventive countermeasures is integral to minimizing future COVID-19 risk in our community. To that end, below is a comprehensive (but not exhaustive) summary of our commitment.
General:
All staff continue to receive specialized CDC and Connecticut DPH-compliant hygiene awareness training, are screened upon entering the premises prior to each shift, sent home to await test results if they show symptoms of illness, mandated to use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and directed to practice frequent and thorough handwashing along with continuous social distancing.
• Clinical:
In addition to utilizing full PPE, our care staff is continuously trained in its donning, doffing and disposal. We also activated a “cohort” strategy to isolate COVID -19 negative from positive Residents and Patients, and enforced a “dedicated staff” coverage model for each shift to ensure consistent paired engagement between each Resident and Caregiver. The latter will facilitate potential Contact Tracing protocols and enhances the quality of our caregiving relationships.
• Culinary:
Food vendors are prohibited from entering the premises entirely. All deliveries are closely screened before being brought into the building by our staff to mitigate contamination risk. Our kitchen is also sanitized before and after every meal service - all equipment, carts, handles, and surfaces are cleaned with a CDC-approved disinfectant.
All communal dining points of service are closed in favor of providing individual meal service to Residents’ rooms. This has resulted in our team serving at least 100 additional meals per day vs. the pre-COVID-19 period. Meals are administered using disposable elements to help prevent virus spread-risk. In the event of a food shortage, we maintain a greatly increased inventory of emergency food and water.
• Maintenance & Housekeeping:
We practice stringent daily cleaning and maintenance protocols throughout our community to continually disinfect rooms and common areas using EPA-registered products tested for use against the COVID-19 virus. We reinforced this with weekly cleanings by emergency restoration company, SERVPRO.
